Sam Wright

Pillar to Post

This work focuses on the vibrant and resilient traveler and gypsy communities in the UK and Ireland.

For two years, Sam has immersed himself in this world, traveling to horse fairs, conducting interviews, doing research, meeting inspiring people and documenting their experiences through photography and film.

Misrepresentation by the media has been detrimental to these communities. Sam has sought to counteract this with honest representation, challenging misconceptions, and showcasing their passion and resilience. As growing challenges threaten traveler and gypsy communities, Sam believes it is time for a positive change in attitudes, and he hopes this project will contribute to that change.

He was drawn to the incredible characters, deep family values, and profound connections to tradition.

Although he could continue shooting indefinitely and keep learning, he is proud of what he has captured so far and is ready to showcase and publish the project with Gost books.

Winner of the first prize in the 2024 Open Call edition.
