Konrad Dobrucki
Layers
The Layers project by Konrad Dobrucki consists of photographs taken between March and July 2022 in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Kyiv, and Brodyanka. It is a visual story of destruction and hope, of silent attempts to defend identity and cultural heritage.
In response to the devastation caused by the Russian invasion, members of Ukraine’s local governments, parishes, and non-governmental organizations, along with civilians, took on the task of protecting artworks from potential missile strikes or bombings. These efforts—though not exclusively—are the main subjects of the project. It showcases a typology of protected sculptures, featuring images of poets, saints, national heroes, and mythological figures.
Thus, the project becomes a portrait of the nation and its people, reflected through their efforts to envision the future beyond the war.

Konrad Dobrucki (Poland)
He is a Warsaw-based photographer whose work combines documentary storytelling with an in-depth exploration of the photographic medium. He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Warsaw and participated in the Sputnik Photos Mentorship Program in 2020-2021. Later, he obtained a diploma in Photography from the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań.
His practice is characterized by an interest in architecture and human habits, often exploring the intersection between man-made environments and human behavior. Dobrucki seeks what is omitted, what is absent, and becomes an invisible layer of reality. To achieve this, he has chosen analog photography as his primary medium of expression.
