Iván Franco Fraga
Lo real ingrávido
The author explores the intersection between painting and photography, blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion. With a meticulous use of materials and an in-depth study of light and composition, Iván Franco Fraga recreates the photographic appearance with surprising precision. His artistic practice is based on the notion of simulacrum, questioning the relationship between the image and its referent and inviting the viewer to reflect on how we perceive what we see.
Beyond the subjects represented, Fraga seeks to highlight the physicality of his works, using drawing and painting techniques to emulate the morphology of photography, capturing the grain of the image, the grey tones and the chromatic aberrations. This approach generates a visual ambiguity that challenges perception and blurs the boundary between the pictorial and the photographic. Over time, his work has evolved towards a more structural approach, emphasising not only the content but also the visual construction of the image. Through each piece, Iván Franco Fraga invites the viewer to question the veracity of visual representation and the transience of perception in contemporary society.
