Recently, analogue photography has experienced a significant revival in the artistic and cultural spheres. Many contemporary photographers, most of them young and others not so young, have rediscovered the value of chemical processes and traditional photographic materials, both for their aesthetic qualities and for the pace of work they require.

Analogue photography involves slower and more deliberate processes, from taking the photograph to developing and making the final print.

One of the characteristics that attracts many artists to analogue photography is its material dimension. Unlike digital images, analogue photographs exist as physical objects: negatives, plates, paper prints… This material nature opens up new possibilities for experimentation and direct manipulation of the photographic process.

Communities and laboratories

The revival of analogue photography has also been accompanied by the emergence of independent and community laboratories, research spaces and collectives devoted to these photographic processes. These spaces often function as centres for production and learning, where photographers of different levels can experiment with historical techniques and share knowledge.

Festivals and gatherings

The Revela’t Festival is part of this cultural ecosystem dedicated to the exploration and promotion of contemporary analogue photography, which has grown into a network of festivals from around the world. This is the Analog Photography Festival Network APFN , which brings together around a dozen festivals. Over the coming months, we will aim to bring all these festivals together so that you can discover them all.
