Finding a Place, Twenty Ways to Escape

Escape is commonly associated with flight, abandonment or disappearance. However, the works brought together in this exhibition propose a broader interpretation of the concept, since escaping can also mean transforming oneself, surviving, resisting or imagining other ways of inhabiting the world.
Through twenty photobooks gathered under the theme of this edition, the exhibition explores different ways of confronting the limits imposed by the environment, the body, memory, violence or social structures. From intimate accounts to narratives shaped by political and historical conflicts, the works understand escape not only as a physical displacement, but also as an emotional, symbolic and vital experience.

Photo Art Books is a platform specialising in the dissemination of content on photobooks, published both nationally and internationally, with a particular focus on self-published works. Its aim is to give visibility to photographers from around the world who present their work in photobook format.
A project created and directed by Mireia Alises, a photographer, documentalist and digital content manager who has been involved in the world of photography for over fifteen years.
