Home: A Close Observation
Els Rajolers

European Exchange Exhibition Project for Contemporary Photographers in Hualien, Taiwan. Four photographers based in Hualien, Taiwan, explore the concept of home with sincerity and simplicity, through close observation and delicate, long-term projects - precisely the place from which one does not flee, but to which one returns in order to understand oneself.
Drawing on their own local experiences, they offer a broader perspective on the contemporary world, touching on family, identity, territory, memory and our relationship with the environment.
Returning to one’s origins, to the intimate, to the landscape and to what endures in everyday experience is the common theme shared by the four authors: viewing the world from home, understood not only as a physical place, but also as memory, connection and the starting point for any subsequent journey.

Hui-Yu Lo, Annie Hsiao-Ching Wang, Soon-Long Chung and Ming-Chang Tien are Taiwanese visual artists working in the fields of photography, teaching and artistic research.
From different perspectives, their work explores identity, motherhood, family memory, everyday life, territory and the transformations of the landscape.
They have exhibited internationally and their works form part of prominent public and private collections.
Their practice combines photography, video and installation with a critical examination of the links between personal history, society and the environment.
