The altered states of consciousness studied by Stanislav Grof form the starting point for this series, in which each photograph represents a different way of escaping: from fear, from routine, from memory or from oneself.
Escape, here, does not mean physically fleeing but rather crossing the boundaries of one’s own mind to enter spaces where reality shifts and emotions are intensified or released.
Through light, shadow and fragmented bodies, the images reveal hidden emotions, dreams, anxiety, desire and transformation.
The camera acts as a gateway to the unconscious, the ultimate territory to which one can escape when the outside world proves insufficient or unbearable.
Joan Alsina (Barcelona) offers a perspective on photography more typical of visual artists than of photographers.
He was introduced to photography by his father and, from a very young age, his intuition and curiosity led him to develop innovative methods characterised by a distinctive style within the field.
