Revela’t 2026 Opening and Tribute
Manel Armengol
During the Festival’s featured weekend, on Friday, October 16, as is tradition, we will hold our annual tribute. And this year, we have chosen a good friend: Manel Armengol.
On February 1 and 6, 1976, exactly 50 years ago, Manel Armengol photographed the demonstrations in Barcelona calling for amnesty for political prisoners. He was not yet officially a photographer, but his images reached the foreign press and were published in international media. They became one of the clearest testimonies of Francoist repression in its final months. Armengol had begun taking photographs in the early 1970s in the neighborhoods of Badalona, accompanying his journalistic articles. Those days in February 1976 marked a before and after.
In this edition of the festival, we will have the honor of presenting our Silver Badge to a photographer who learned to look in the streets of Barcelona when the city was alive with change, and who has never stopped doing so: from the 1976 demonstrations that appeared on the covers of Time, Paris Match and Der Spiegel, to the ancient olive trees of the Mediterranean, passing through the nocturnal chimeras of La Pedrera and the landscapes of Iceland.
Afterwards, we will enjoy a drink and those long-awaited reunions that return year after year: embraces, conversations, toasts and shared memories.
We look forward to seeing you!
