Introduction to Cyanotype

Workshop/Demonstration with Anna Fabra

Saturday, May 18th

A workshop/demonstration of one of the earliest techniques that has been highly successful among those who are starting to delve into the analog universe. Easy and accessible for all ages.

We have scheduled this inspired by the pioneering work of Anna Atkins, the first woman to create an illustrated book using cyanotypes. We will explore the fascinating world of cyanotype to create prints evoking Atkins’ works, halfway between art and science.

Participants will learn the basics of this technique, including how to apply photosensitive chemicals to paper and how to produce unique compositions using botanical specimens. Of course, it can be done with other objects or enlarged negatives.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn a historic photographic process, unleash your creativity, and you can even take your creation home.

Spaces are limited, so reserve yours now!

Anna Fabra Raduà

She is an art historian by training, a walker by vocation, and a “cyanotypist” at heart. She became a photography enthusiast since she got her first camera at the age of 7.

Many years and cameras later, she was fascinated by the magic, elegance, and simplicity of a historic photographic process without a camera: cyanotype.

Finally, she found the method that best suited her attempt to document a walking body observing the world and trying to make sense of it.

‘Cyanotypes’ is her creative project born in Los Angeles, California, in 2016. Each botanical cyanotype in her online gallery is a unique original photogram that bears witness to her walks, hikes, wanderings…
