Residency of Creation and Photographic Experimentation
The Call for the Residency of Creation and Photographic Experimentation aims to select eight artists specialized in the field of analog photography or processes so that they can share a workspace for a week, from the 4 to 11 June 2023. The residency will be carried out with the aim of promoting cultural and artistic exchange between the participants and developing a collective project, which exceeds the sum of the individual works.
The working environment will allow participants to share their knowledge, concepts and procedures, as well as work with the various techniques, methods and processes chosen by them. This meeting will result in an exhibition that can be seen at the 2024 Revela’t festival.
The residency takes place during the main weekend of the festival, so participants can attend the activities and experience the festival by themselves.
Who can apply?
Amateur or professional photographers of any nationality, origin, or place of residence, over 18 years of age or with the permission of their legal tutor, can register for the cal. Those who work primarily in the field of chemical photography and who are willing to work individually or as a team during this exchange.
The project must be developed during the festival, but the author will have all year to finish it. The selection of the participants will take into account the professional trajectory, the interest of the work, the suitability of the work to the resources of Revela’t as well as the technique or techniques used and the contribution that it can make to the artistic exchange.
The selection of participants will be decided by the organization and the two coordinators and will be final. The mastery of specific photographic techniques that can bring added value to the rest of the group will be evaluated.
Tutors
In each edition of the Residency there are two people who guide and accompany participants at all times. They are knowledgeable about the environment and the mechanics of work because they have participated on previous occasions. In past editions we have had the invaluable collaboration of Ana Tornel, Joaquín Paredes and Enrique Freaza.
Laura Aubrée
Laura works between Brest and Paris. She defines her practice as an exploration. Traveling through her imagination, she randomly invites and refuses to record things but to create them. Focusing on the materiality of photography, Laura studies how photography still exists as a three-dimensional object in time and space. Through continuous experimentation, she creates what she calls photographic objects.
Vareila Mairanga
Vareila is a Franco-Kenyan photographer who lives and works in Buenos Aires. She works in experimental analog photography, mainly pinhole, solarigraphy and chemogram. In 2017 she participated in the conception and construction of a minute camera. In his search for image research, she participates in workshops and laboratories of experimental cinema and contemporary art.
Prize
A week of artistic exchange with seven other photographers and two tutors to develop a project that will be exhibited in Revela’t 2024. You’ll find more details of the organization’s coverage in the terms and conditions.
FAQS
Can I submit my portfolio if I already did last year?
¡Of course! You may have worked on your portfolio this year and the jury has changed, so you may have a new opportunity to be elected to the Residency.
What does the registration fee and participation fee cover?
The 20€ of registration contribute to the administrative expenses that cover the selection process, as well as the promotion of the call and the jury.
ONLY the eight participants selected for the Residency will have to pay a participation fee of €100 that will help cover a small part of the accommodation and living expenses; and the rest will be covered by the organization.
If you are Revela’t Friend, since you already contribute to the festival, you benefit from a 50% discount on registration. This discount DOES NOT apply to the participation fee.
If I am a Revela’t Friend, how can I have my 50% discount?
All the Revela’t Friends will receive a CODE through mail to enter the call with the discount.
Will I receive feedback on my submission?
Due to the number of submissions, the jury is unable to provide specific feedback.
Can I enter as a duo or collective?
No. Each participation is individual.
What should I write in the project description?
If you have a project in mind that you want to develop in the residency, you can explain it in this section, but it is NOT mandatory to have a specific idea or project to apply. If you don’t have it, you can copy the artistic statement again in the project description and continue with your registration.
