Photo Art Books
Photobooks and Identity: Windows to Cultural and Social Diversity.
Under the theme of this edition, I Have Seen Things You Wouldn’t Believe, this exhibition brings together twenty photobooks that challenge the boundaries between reality and imagination, document events that test our perception, and explore the mysteries of the unknown. Through various visual and narrative approaches, these works question the way we understand the world, navigating between documentary testimony and the construction of fiction.
Some works examine the role of photography in shaping official narratives, while others propose new ways of addressing the unknown, from unexplained phenomena to beliefs and contemporary mythologies. In many cases, the documented stories surpass the limits of fiction, revealing realities that, due to their complexity or extraordinary nature, are hard to believe. In this context, the emergence of artificial intelligence adds a new dimension to visual representation, generating images that challenge our trust in photography as a reflection of reality.
The exhibition creates a space for the unknown, where images provoke, question, and evoke emotions, challenging our perception. Through these photobooks, a dialogue emerges about our relationship with uncertainty and the ongoing negotiation between truth, fiction, and perception.
A collective exhibition organized by Photo Art Books and curated by Mireia Alises, made possible thanks to the generosity of the authors and publishers, who have kindly provided copies for this showcase.
