Laura Aubrée i Ramsés Silva

De la luz a la materia

The work of Laura Aubrée and Ramsés Silva seeks to explore the relationship between image, matter, and time, establishing a dialogue between early photography and experimental cinema. Their proposal transcends the mere capture of reality, transforming the image into a space for reflection on memory, identity, and sacredness.

The project delves into the alchemical process of image creation, where light solidifies on glass and time fragments into emulsions. In this sense, it is not just about documenting or representing, but about questioning how we perceive and experience the image. Their work breaks with the linearity of time, creating a space where past and present merge, inviting the viewer to pause within the image and inhabit it as if it were a dream or a memory.

Another essential aspect is the relationship between image and sacredness. The installation presents the cross not as a burden or a fixed symbol, but as an open possibility for new meanings. The central question that emerges is: What do we consider worthy of being sacred, and what stories do we inscribe into the symbols we inherit? In this sense, the work becomes a palimpsest, a superimposition of layers of meanings in constant transformation.

Thus, the exhibition functions as a liminal space, where photography and cinema dissolve, and where matter and spirit meet. It is an immersive experience that invites contemplation and reflection on the very nature of the image and its power to challenge us.

Laura Aubrée  ( Brest, França) i Ramsés Silva (Badajoz)

They have been collaborating as photographers since 2023. Their artistic practice emerges from the exploration of experimental imagery, challenging the boundaries between static photography and cinematic movement. Through a combination of seemingly opposing techniques, such as wet collodion and analog cinema, they create dystopian visual landscapes in which their installations bring new semantics to the images.

In their visual language, photography is not just an image but also a physical object that crosses the boundary between the inanimate and the animated. Their work grants collodion an intimate space, inviting viewers to “cross” beyond perception, while opening a new dimension for cinema, which emerges as a palimpsest of meanings in constant evolution.

This approach transforms their artistic creation into a dialogue between past and present, matter and visual experience, exploring the limits of the image and its ability to transform and transform us.
