“Darrell & Patricia: A Love Story” explores the complex and intimate relationship between a transgender couple throughout their thirty years of marriage and simultaneous transitioning.
Employing original photography, family snapshots, and anecdotes from Oregon-based couple Darrell and Patricia, Goldberg examines the themes of self-reflection, identity, and love.
This work was created during the project of ¨Postcards From America¨ (2011–16).
Jim Goldberg (born 1953 in the United States) is a pioneering photographer known for his innovative use of combining image and text, which has established him as a significant figure in contemporary photography.
His long-term projects include Rich and Poor (1977-85), Raised by Wolves (1985-95), and Open See (2003-2011), for which he was awarded the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award and the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2011.
Goldberg’s works are in numerous collections including the: Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Getty, LACMA, National Gallery of Art, Alinari National Museum of Photography in Florence, Le Musee de la Photographie, Belgium, and Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, Germany.
Goldberg is represented by Casemore Kirkeby Gallery in San Francisco, and is a member of Magnum Photos.
Mike Brodie, known by the nickname the “Polaroid Kidd”, was born on the 5th of April in 1985 in the United States, in the city of Mesa, in the state of Arizona. Brodie began traveling on trains in 2002 at the age of 17, where he fell in love with the culture called “train-hopping”. It was in 2004 when a friend gave him a Polaroid camera, and he began to photograph his travels without the pretense of becoming an artist. Brodie traveled 200,000 miles by train across the United States while he was accumulating photographs for the next four years, which were taken with a Nikon F3. So, he was creating a self-taught collection of his USA travel.
In 2008 he received the Baum Prize as an emerging artist of America, later published the book “A Period of Juvenile Prosperity” with photographs taken during those years. That became one of the best photobooks of 2013 and also he made different exhibitions. He never gave up his love of photography, but he paused to work as a diesel mechanic and truck driver, being a worker, traveler and a splendid photographer.
