PORTFOLIO REVIEW 12X12X20

For the first time at our festival, the programmed activities include a portfolio review with the aim of supporting young photographers, professionals or amateurs, publicizing their work and helping it grow.

The three selected candidates will be awarded at the end of the review a sellection of prizes that will allow them to continue learning and / or to be able to produce their own exhibition.

12x12x20 aims to encourage collaboration and an artistic and commercial relationship between 12 experts from the world of European photography (gallery owners, curators, festival directors, critics and editors) and 12 photographers during 20-minute viewing sessions. The participating photographers will have been previously selected from a call, and may only participate in a single shift. The activity is planned in two independent shifts: the morning shift from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and another one in the afternoon, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each block / module lasts 4 hours, with a small pause at the middle.

It is not necessary for this activity that the work presented is analog, although of course we would love if it was well represented. All works must be physically presented on paper. Tablets or laptops will not be accepted.

Open call until 21st of August.

Open call ends:

Aki Pekka Sinikoski

Founder and Curator at Helsinki Biennale

Known as a multifaceted portrait photographer, our works have been exhibited both in Finland and internationally. As a documentary filmmaker, his best-known photo series are Finnish Teens, MJ, and Last Machos. Sinikoski has also worked as an executive producer and curator of the Helsinki Biennale exhibitions since 2006.

Sinikoski often describes his artistic photographic production methods as long and slow. According to Sinikoski, this is due to the exceptional reach of the documentary series, but also to his desire to capture the passage of time. It is not looking for decisive moments, but the feeling of stagnation just after these moments.
