Irun Kiko

Irun Kiko is an on-going project that investigates the contemporary symbology of African hairstyles,  particularly the style Irun Kiko, which translates from Yoruba to “hair threading”. My identity as a black British Nigerian is key in my photography, that speaks to both me and others living between Africa and the diaspora. It has been a long and personal  journey of self-discovery, wishing to tell important and sometimes forgotten histories that shape us, whilst also proving the effects of colonialism.

Irun Kiko series has received international acclaim.
