La creciente

When we talk of an odyssey we mean a difficult journey, but even a difficult journey has some sense of hope in it.  But there comes a time in everybody’s life when an odyssey is no longer an option. My mother spent the last two and a half years of her life in a care home about 20 minutes walk from her own house.  Sometimes my brother would take her home for the afternoon but the clock was always ticking for her to go back. It must have been very painful to wake up every morning knowing how close her home was.

She was transracially adopted and grew up looking at a world that did not reflect her experiences.  Capturing it through at first drawing and later photography became a way of keeping a record of the world she experienced as it wasn’t reflected anywhere else.
