El bon dolor

During 4 years (2013-2017), the photographer Roger Rossell has accompanied the Hungarian artist Bórbala Szente (“Pina Brutal”) in her quest to overcome her physical limits, following her desire to rip her skin and look at her own blood.

Bórbala mixes private and intimate experiences with public performances finding absolute freedom by reaching meditative transit states generated by the neurotransmitters secreted by the brain as a natural reaction to extreme pain, to mortification of the flesh through body suspension and self-mutilation.

A change in the paradigm of pain, not only for those who experience it directly, but also for those who observe it.

Roger Rossell (Barcelona, 1977)

His is centered on the human being, revolving around the concepts of identity, privacy, intimacy and eroticism. He works mainly with chemical photography and has spent the last few years researching and experimenting with historical printing techniques such as cyanotype, gum bichromate and carbon transfer.
