Las Fotos Perdidas de BCN, by Tom Sponheim

 Milagros Caturla: Catalan Vivian Maier

On 2001 a northamerican tourist, Tom Sponheim bought at the Encants in Barcelona around one hundred negatives, them appeared to be urban views from the city.

Once he was back in Seattle, and with the photos developed, he realized that those photos had been made by someone with a great talent, but he didn’t know who was the author.

Thanks to his Facebook “Las fotos perdidas de Barcelona” he has been able to get document them with the help of internauts.

One of them, Begoña Fernández Díaz managed to identify the author last March. Milagros Caturla, winner of the IV Provincial Contest of Female Photograpers in 1962. She was a teacher, civil servant at the Diputació de Barcelona. She died of Alzheimer, single with no descendants, probably with a photographic legacy from what we only know a small part… Could she be a new Vivian Maier, Catalan?
