The world’s worst nuclear accident happened on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl nuclear site.

Just 5 months after the disaster, Mariia was born in Kiev. She was a very sickly child and finally, she had an operation which removed her thyroid gland when she was 24 years old.

Since then she has had to take 10 to 20 pills every day to maintain her hormone balance. Her disease and disability are invisible and nobody can understand her difficult life without explanation.

Obara tries to reveal her invisible life and pain with contaminated medium format films which were found in affected area.

Photojournalist based in Japan. With his project 'Exposure' he tries to give exposure to the invisible victims of Chernobyl accident by using old Ukrainian film.
