Crisálidas, of Ana Tornel
Easily we observe the worm and the butterfly, but what attracts the attention of Ana Tornel is precisely the chrysalis, one of the most spectacular stages of mutation that nature offers.
With the particularity that the nymphs of the photographer are human, because our life is curd pupae, periods in which we suffer and changes of all kinds, physical, psychological.
From adolescence stage in the transition from childhood to adolescence it is operated, our pupae are those states of doubt, stress or shock in which, camouflaged behind an apparent fragility, move and oppose powerful forces , sometimes violent, resulting which is unknown to us beforehand.
The photographer also tries to capture the almost incessant struggle in which soul and matter face. By observing the body poses in front of the goal, attempts to reveal the spirit that encourages him. This operation occurs gradually, in complicity and harmony with the model, which ceases to be reasserted as a person.
Chrysalis comes to symbolize the work of Ana Tornel, and this ephemeral chemistry that develops between her, her subject and technique of wet collodion. Even when perfectly mastered, this process is able to impose its law the photographer, shoot down their certainties and propose something else, unfamiliar terrain, an unprecedented experience. Sometimes it is precisely these incidents, away from the preconceived image, which makes the subject appear as is.
